There’s a new Urban Decay palette turning heads in the beauty blogosphere – the → UD x Gwen Stefani eyeshadow palette will be launched at the end of November and is already pretty hyped. I got mine a few days ago and today I want to share some pictures and first thoughts about it with you. I don’t have a look ready since the weather was horrible last weekend and we couldn’t go outside and shoot, but you’ll definitely see some make-up looks with it soon.
As you can see, there are many neutral colors in this palette. A mixture of matte, shimmering and glitter eye shadows, some with reflecting effects, others just simply plain. For a natural make-up lover like me, this is a perfect everyday palette – others may think that it’s pretty boring because there are a few similar colors, especially the ones in the middle (“Anaheim”, “Stark” and “Zone”), but truth is: they’re not the same. For example: “Blonde” looks like an extremely boring pale nude in the palette – applied, it’s almost sheer but has that gorgeous pink shimmering effect (depending on the light). “Blackout” may be just another matte black but it’s SO matte, I have no words to describe it. It’s black-black and totally opaque. “Skimp” and “Pop” look pretty similar, but while “Skimp” is only shimmering, “Pop” has the most sparkle of all in this palette. “1987” is a beautiful neutral gold, “Danger” the most wonderful blue (and has some tiny little blue glitter particles that aren’t always there when you apply it), “Harajuku” seems to be totally misplaced in this palette (well, for me), but I guess, combined with “Blackout”, this might be a great match. Each shade is different and therefore I’d not say that this palette is boring. But of course, it’s still something that’s more for people who like neutrals. Anyways, you can create everyday daytime looks but also smoky and colorful sparkling looks for the night. “Punk”, one of my favorite colors, may be just perfect for fall, and if you’re looking for your matching skin tone color, we’re back at “Anaheim”, Stark” and “Zone” – one of them will definitely fit (mine is “Stark”, as you can see) and they’re great as a base for your looks.
You see – I don’t really feel the urge to talk much about the collaboration with Gwen because I’m not that much of a fan girl (but I like her music and her style!) and normally don’t get too crazy about celebrity collabs with beauty brands (especially perfumes…), but: Urban Decay says that she followed every step, chose each and every color and detail from the eye shadows to the palette design to the packaging, and I must say: she did a great job. I truly like this palette.
By the way: I heard that for NAKED owners, this palette may actually really not be that interesting – I guess this could be true, since the nude colors can probably be found in the NAKED palettes. But I only have the → NAKED Smoky, so there’s nothing I can say, except that these colors can’t be found in that palette, only a few that look a bit similar (for example “Steady” or “Bathwater”).
About the textures: they’re as good as always. I only experienced a little bit of fallout with “Danger” and the matte colors, but it’s manageable. :)
